ATON is a hopefully evolving classification theory. It aspires to unify knowledge around numbers and prefers naive methods.

Bhagavadgita: A theory of being?

Lately I ran into Bhagavadgita (Lord's song) at the wonderful Theosophical Shop in the city. Books, other stuff and people there are very nice. A more interesting aspect of religion as a social expression of spirituality, rather than the greedy and ignorant moronity of some mainstream religions. The good force is stronger in Australia. I have been looking for a good ancient book of wisdom. Many of them are spoiled over time. But B seems very nice indeed! Religion was more interesting in the ancient times, when it was unified with science. How they achieved such wisdom is a mystery. My guess is, we are the remnants of an alien colony. Maybe this is a good way of keeping the galactic/universal genetic stock in good shape. The theory of the universe would spoil the natural evolution. That could be why they don't leave any technology. Just good advice.

Well, not really good advice overall. Lately, "vinayak" brought a troubling aspect of Gita to my attention;

Which I have been aware of. I thought I commented on it already, maybe deleted. Anyway, Krishna, in chapter-2, encourages Arjuna to kill. Not very good. I thought maybe the book is modified by the ruling classes of the past to suit their own ends. They have done it to many sacred books already. It could be that all sacred books are written by the ruling classes. They have access to talented and greedy minds. But you never know. Some things in these books are too good.

Could it be read in another angle like a theory of being? A theory of the universe? Chapters are; (I am using E.Arnold's translation, I hope I don't infringe any copyrights here)

1. The distress of Arjuna
Nothing-everything duality as a chaotic unity with no mediator.
2. The book of doctrines
Unity as mediated duality.
3. Virtue in work
The principle of least action.
4. The religion of knowledge
Light. Knowledge.
5. Religion by renouncing fruit of works
6. Religion by self-restraint
7. Religion by discernment
8. Religion by devotion to the one supreme God
The unifier, like the exponential function.
9. Religion by the kingly knowledge and the kingly mystery
Certainty and uncertainty.
10. Religion by the heavenly perfections
Geometry.
11. The manifesting of the one and manifold
Algebra.
12. The religion of faith
Prediction.
13. Religion by seperation of matter and spirit
Time and frequency domains. Seperation of executive and juduciary.
14. Religion by seperation from the qualities
Balance.
15. Religion by attaining the supreme
16. The seperateness of the divine and undivine
Like 13.
17. Religion by the threefold kinds of faith
Space.
18. Religion by deliverence and renunciation
Time. Free will. Self determination.

Note the number of chapters: 18 = 4!3!2!1!0! / 2^4 = 288/16 = SM4 . 18 is also the magic number of the periodic table.

I will keep filling this summary as I read more. Then I may open up seperate posts for each chapter if more detail comes out. Tarot seems to be strongly related, as a surprise.

Thank you very much for your comment at my blog bhagavadgitayb.
When compared to the unreasonable impositions and demands by priests in Gita in the ostensible name of Krishna,
Bhartruhari in his 100 verses of Renunciation (Vairagya Satakam) made an honest self-analysis. The verses are capable of influencing us deeply, if we are really concerned about our fickleness, greed and waywardness for acquiring material possessions. Roman Script and English translation + commentary by me. Every human has his shortcomings. Bhartruhari too had his own shortcomings. Yet he wrote a masterpiece.
